we have brains

I get really worked up when i read about the atrocities commited upon woman. The progress from industralization to globalisation has made us somewhat myopic with regard to woman's rights and equality. Modern woman ( well most at least) are increasingly becoming more satisfied with their apparant leverage in status with regard to man in the household and work place. So much so that they are appeased with their apparant 'equal' status with men. But in truth, we are far from equal and there much more to be done in this world.

Lets talk about Singapore. Is there really gender equality? Are we really on Par with our male counterparts? Or have we simply been too delighted with the progress we have made through the last century that we simply feel contented with whatever is being served to us on that exquisite '500 usd per piece china' on the dinner table? Even if what really is on the table is just mixture of fowl livers made to look like foie gras. Gender equality? i think not. Even though im proud to say we've been making fine progress. But i stress thate we must not be blinded by this progress. Neither should we grow accustomed to or just be content with what rights we have. Because, ultimately the search for that elusive state of utopia will only exist when there is equality and respect between the sexes.

In the workplace, how many times has that promotion been passed on simply because you have vagina? Gender discrimination in the workplace, who is to say it isnt there? Well if you're raising your hand in disagreement, please wake up. And if you're free, please take a bus down to a bookstore and go look at how many books have been published with regard to gender politics at the workplace.

Well then again we must acknowledge that on our side of the world, we have much more opportunities than the woman who have been socialised to believe that they are inferior and subservient to men. But then again who can argue against the fact that a woman managerial position has much more considerations than a man at the same position? No no no, they can never sit with their arms crossed, they cannot be too direct in their comments, their body language must not be too agressive, their sales pitch cannot be too pushy, they cannot outwardly show displeasure the way a man does... NO NO NO that would simply be blasphemous, we will not hear of it. Its inappropriate and simply a taboo. To speak, hear or see of it would be equivalent to an encounter with evil. Speak no evil, hear no evil and see no evil.

So instead of spending more time figuring out better strategies to maximising profit for the firm, woman have to spend more time being conscientious of how they come across and how to affirm their 'less that steady' positions in the firm. Many times, a woman in a leadership position is met with skeptism. Like a sheep, she is surrounded by a pack of blood thirsty tigers whose claws have been sharpened in anticipation for an opportunity to reduce any mishappenings to a simple sentence "She's a woman, what do you expect?" According to them, we're soft, indecisive and emotional and they simply cannot condone such human factors to wreck their opportunity at the next million dollars. PUHLEEEZ.If they didnt spend half as much time as they did trying to fit and affirm their position in the traditionally patriarchal terrain of the workplace we would be able to produce so much more. Whatever the men can do, we woman can do, if not, better.

How many times have you been put down by a relative, " aiya, girl mah.. study so hard for what next time get married can already" or like "im the head of this household, you must listen to me". Or have fallen victims to implications such as --So what if you're earning power is similar to mine? -which is also equivalent to -So what if you have a brain? You have a vagina and that negates everything.

And mind you, this is happening in a civilised developed nation like ours; where woman do actually have the opportunity to go to school and work. Where ideals of the newage independent woman exist. Can you imagine the kind of Bollocks that the woman in other parts of the world have to deal with? It just angers me to think about it.

I am a woman, hear me roar.

Thats not to say that all the men denote woman as the subservient sex. But undeniably the roots our history still remains innately their part of their nature. Some men just simply refuse to let go of their alleged perception of male superiority. There is still a general tendency of male chauvinism at a slighter degree....Which i think that we woman folk deserve since we worked hard in gathering proof to debunk the previously wraped notion that woman are simply genetically inferior to their male counterparts.

Recently this fellow course member of mine from pakistan revealed after much pestering that woman at the workplace there are simply seen as sex objects, despite the fact that their degrees play testament that the grey mass in their skull are actually brains. That from a university student who is part of their societies finest, internationally educated breed of male tetestrones. No that wasnt a typo, i meant tetestrones. Why? Well. Its pretty Logical since they let their tetestrones preside their international education and degrees.

Thats not to say that i hate men. Life would be boring without them there would probably be alot of cranky females if it werent for them.( well then again there are many maniacal women because of them as well) to say we dont need them emotionally or for reproductive purposes would be a big lie (despite the new wave of homosexuality and scientific procedures in reproductive technologies). We need them but they need us too and they had better acknowledge that. Its a mutual dependence we're discussing here. And when i mean mutual, i include the understanding of equalness.

wanna know more? ill blog more about our more unfortunate female counterparts in todays world soon. Who have never experienced liberalisation or self autonomy. Those who are in bondage to the patriarchy which exist in their societies. The ladies who have been undermined for too long.

ok im getting restless. bye.
